| Alton Leroy Stanwood was born with Cerebral Palsy in 1923. He lived in Massachusetts most of his life;
first with his family, then at a state school, a nursing home, and finally in his own apartment. |

| Leroy published his life story, entitled Strong as Steel, Stubborn as a Mule: One Man's Road to Independence. It was his hope that his
thoughts and experiences may inspire other people with disabilities to reach for independence. |
